How to Make the Perfect Honey-Lemon Throat Lozenge

Winter is approaching fast and for many that means coughs, colds, and sore throats. But instead of running off to the local grocery store or pharmacy to load up on commercial throat lozenges and cough drops full of sugar and artificial everything, why not make your own honey-lemon throat lozenge out of good, healthy and natural ingredients?

These natural honey-lemon throat lozenges are quick and easy to make and you can customize them to suit your own taste buds. Adding essential oils to the mix can also help build up your immune system and help you better survive the sniffles of cold winter months. Peppermint essential oil contains the volatile oil menthol which helps soothe the bronchial and help eases sore throats.  It also has antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, insecticidal, antispasmodic and carminative properties.


  1. 2 tablespoons of water
  2. The zest of one lemon
  3. 5 drops of peppermint essential oil (where to find)
  4. 5 ounces of raw honey

Preparation Instructions:

  • Combine honey, and water in a small saucepan. Heat over a low flame and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Cover for 4 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let cool for five minutes.
  • Stir in lemon zest and peppermint essential oil.
  • Use a teaspoon to drop small amounts of the mixture onto the cookie sheet making sure to leave some space between them, because they’ll spread.
  • Allow it to harden. This will take approximately 30 minutes.
  • Let cool for 1/2 hour and store in an air-tight container. Keeps for 3-6 months in dry conditions.
